The United States of America’s government has selected 250 Nigerian women https://www.ripplesnigeria.com/us-govt-selects-250-nigerian-women-for-business-training/ for a 3- month business training empowerment through its initiative programme called Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE).
On September 7, 2021, the US Consulate in Nigeria issued a statement stating that 250 Nigerian women were chosen from 15,700 applicants.
According to Kathleen FitzGibbon, the academy’s director, the program’s goal is to economically empower women by providing them with security, stability, and prosperity..
“AWE is a US government initiative that supports women entrepreneurs around the world as part of the ongoing commitment to assisting women in breaking down barriers, gaining economic and financial independence, and creating pathways to prosperity,” she explained.
“When women are economically empowered, they reinvest in their families and communities, strengthening society’s social fabric as well as the workforce’s education and skill levels.” This multiplier effect promotes economic growth and stability.”
Following a successful three-month training, each woman will be required to submit a proposal for a business plan of her choosing, for which grants/funds will be granted as an empowerment.
